There is a program called Art in a Suitcase that the school participates in. Basically, 5 times a year parent volunteers come in to the class and teach the students about a specific aspect of art and show a variety of examples of this art. Then the students get a chance to create their own art following the lesson they have learned. Here are some of our favorites.

Jeremy created this January 2008. The assignment was to think about balance and symmetry. The examples shown were all Native American pieces. He was inspired and thought of the movie
Brother Bear with the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and this lead him to think of his favorite CD
Serenity by Kirk Probasco.

Parker learned about industrial art in December of 2007. Each student had a building that hung on a large poster that represented their city. I wish I had gotten a picture of the entire piece, but I didn't think quick enough.
